Paving Tips
"Transform your outdoor oasis into a masterpiece with our guidance and inspiration."
When laying our
paving Products, we recommend using these methods and tips to ensure that your finished product is up to standard and to
avoid any damages to your pavers.
1. Ground Preparation
Ground preparation is extremely important, this will vary according to the soil or ground conditions of the area you are paving. If needed, the ground needs to be stabilised to ensure minimal or no movement. This is especially important in clay areas and steep sloping areas. The area preparation should be compacted and levelled to have sufficient drainage to allow water to flow off and not form pools.
2. Seal Off Area
On top of the compacted area, we recommend that you seal off the area with a plastic sheet, to prevent weeds from growing through your paving. A 20mm layer of clean washed river sand mixed with some cement should be placed on top of the sheet, on which the pavers will be packed. This layer will allow the pavers to settle in and be levelled. It is important to use clean washed river sand, so that minimal salts and other dirty particles can react with your pavers.
3. Measuring Lines
The use of measuring lines is a must, to ensure that your paving is done in the correct lines and to ensure a quality result.
4. After Paving
After paving has been laid, and all lines have been checked and is satisfactory, a mixture of plaster sand and cement should be broomed into all the crevasse to form grout.
5. The Mixture
This mixture should be 1:1 ratio between cement and plaster sand to ensure a strong grout. When using smaller pavers, up to 200 x 200 in size, one could use a plate compactor for levelling. This should however only be done with a conveyor belt beneath the plate as to not damage the texture and face of the paving bricks. Bigger blocks should be levelled with a rubber hammer. Afterwards the entire area should be wettened and all areas that need more grout should be attended to.
6. After The Grout
After the grout has dried a bit, the pavers should be cleaned with water and a sponge.
7. Extra Protection
To ensure extra protection against moisture issues, we recommend that a water repellent sealer be used in areas prone to be wet or moist. This will decrease the chances of moisture moving through the pavers and prevent efflorescent from forming.
8. Washing
When washing any of our paving, only water and sunlight liquid should be used.
9. Using Professionals
Using Professionals to complete your paving project is advisable.
The success to any project with
long term benefits such durability is largely dependent on the quality of the product you decide to install which will safe money on
maintenance, replacement and labour.
